another ax incident…

why do people have to use axes? kana?kana?

It seems that another teenager has joined the bandwagon and tried to kill his father with an ax. This time though there were no casualties, but the father sustained severe head injuries.

Meanwhile, due to the recent events Ryukishi 07, the creator of the visual novel Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and it’s sequel Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai has posted his response on the matter.

Here’s a quick overview: (by: Level E)

“He’s happy with all the support email but more importantly that Higurashi’s message was understood by his fan base. Higurashi is not about the killings. There is a message that’s repeated several times throughout the series, sometimes blatantly. That message is: don’t hold in all the pain to yourself and think that killing someone is your only answer to the situation. Talk to someone!”

“In season 1’s ending, Keichi tells you this. In Minagoroshi Hen this is again reinforced. At the very least, Ryukishi is happy that the last episode aired proved that Keiichi’s decision in Tatarigoroshi Hen was wrong, and there was a better way to approach the situation.”

Ryukishi thanks his fans for all their support since he wouldn’t be able to bear this fate alone.”

First of all, this incident could add fuel to the fire that was the nice boat, quickly followed by the nice food incident last week. This doesn’t bode well with our chances of seeing the final episode of School Days either. And what’s more concerning for me is that maybe they’ll suspend Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai indefinitely because of this, which I hope won’t happen. It’s also worrying me that when I was searching for the word “ax” on danbooru most of the pictures shown are of Rena, and I for one believe that it wasn’t Rena that influenced these teenagers.

It’s bothering me that these crimes are committed using an ax as a weapon, especially since most people will directly connect an incident with another just because of a couple of similarities without even getting all of the facts straight, and this does not look good for the thing that people connect these incidents to. They could connect these incidents to anime(which is very likely), but let me just ask them this, Where can’t you find anime or anime-related materials in Japan?

On the brighter side of things, I’m glad that the fans are helping get Ryukishi 07 through this recent events since it must really be hard on an author of a work that is, though not really said out loud, implied to be connected to these heinous crimes. I’m even planning to send him an email to give him some foreign support in his time of difficulty. And to his fans out there who’s reading this send him an email of support as well his email add provided by Level E.

EDIT: I’m glad that my fear wasn’t realized concerning Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai being suspended indifinitely. It seems that SUN TV has just aired Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai episode 12. Time to wait for the raws to come out.
